Malls in Bangalore, Mumbai and Ahmedabad have gone wi-fi to ensure students and executives spend more time in the mall. More the time spent, more the purchase.

Inorbit Mall and Infinity Mall in Mumbai; Forum mall in Bangalore; Iscon Mega Mall, Himalaya Mall, Gallops have taken the wi-fi plunge already and many more are in queue.

Considering the infrastructure cost to wi-fi enable a mall may range from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 1,00,000, it is a costly affair but for now the mall owners are planning to bear it and may be later on charge for the usage.

I don’t see any rationale in having wi-fi infrastructure in malls. People come to malls to relieve themselves from work pressures or to spend some quality time in entertainment.
I don’t see people carrying laptops to malls for internet connectivity. Even if there are few people who carry laptops to malls, the amount needed for that infrastructure is too high to justify that type of investment.

Again, with mobile internet on the rise, people can get their mails on tho go and thats probably what is needed.

No there should be wi-fi infrastructure in malls. Because today’s time you don’t know when you have to acess the mail.
